Ghost pipefish spend most there live as pelagic creatures in open water.
December to February is their time for reproduction and they morph from nearly translucent into a well visible form and settle in shallow coastal waters or sheltered reefs where they pair up. 5 different species are known.
They are masters of camouflage and it needs patience and knowledge of their habitat to find those beautiful critters.
