Location
Ovalau
is a volcanic island of some 180 square kilometers and located just East
and North of the current capital of the Fiji Islands, Suva. It lies in the
Fijian Province of Lomaiviti, which means center of Fiji. This location
accounts for Levuka's early development as the trading center and then
first capital of Fiji, as it's beautiful and well protected harbor was
almost equal distant from other island groups in the nation.
Ovalau Holiday Resort is located on
the ocean side,
only five kilometers from the town of Levuka. Transport
to town is either by taxi
or local carriers
transport charges are very reasonable.
The cabins location is similar to Levuka,
they are nestled between the craggy hills and the ocean of the
Pacific. This natural deterrent to growth ensures that the resort will
remain of modest and personalized size, just as the Old Capital has.
Most international
travelers arrive in Nadi, which is a short 30-minute
flight to Suva, which is the gateway for Ovalau. There are convenient
connecting flights to the current twice daily 12-minute services to
Ovalau's airport, Bureta, operated by Air
Fiji. There is also a daily (except Sunday) bus/ferry ferry service
that takes about three hours from capital to capital (the new to the
old!).
